Drumchapel Tennis Club are delighted to introduce our new Head Coach, Melanie Mason, effective W/C 26th FEB 2018.
I am delighted to have been appointed as head coach for Drumchapel Tennis Club and look forward to working with the current junior
and adult members, as well as the local community, to build on the current success of the club.
I have been playing tennis since age 9 when I was scouted by the Cliff Richard Tennis Foundation in Parkview Primary School and
subsequently given the opportunity to attend tennis lessons which I would never have considered before. I fell in love with the sport
and love to train and compete. I represented West of Scotland from age 11 and continued to do so until my adult years;
competing in county cups and training both in regional and national squads.
I travelled to the US when I was 15 to meet with colleges and was offered a scholarship to a Division 1 college in Texas but I ended up
having to decline due to circumstances at the time. I later attended Stirling University on a tennis scholarship for 4 years (whilst also
coaching full time).
I began helping out at my local tennis club when I was 16 as an assistant and have been a fully qualified LTA level 3 coach since 2005.
I spent two summers coaching at a highly regarded sports camp in New York and have just returned from 7 years working in Australia.
Since I have returned to Glasgow I have been coaching across a few clubs; Westerton, Hillhead and Western as well as delivering an
exciting project with the charity PEEK in primary schools. I now look forward to taking on this new challenge at Drumchapel Tennis Club!
I love the diversity that coaching brings and enjoy delivering a variety of sessions including; Tots Tennis, MissHits, Mini Tennis, Cardio
Tennis as well as junior performance squads and adult coaching from beginners through to advance team players. I am very passionate
about doing outreach work in the local community and introducing the sport to as many people as possible.
